Smart Serve
This half-day certification course
is designed to promote responsible alcohol beverage service. We schedule at least two Smart Serve courses monthly

What can I expect when I take Smart Serve?
When you come in to take Smart Serve, you will receive a workbook which is yours to keep. A video accompanies the workbook and provides information that you will use to complete a series of quizzes. Once you have completed the viewing of the video and all of the quizzes, you will write the Smart Serve certification test. The test is multiple choice. The tests are sent to Smart Serve's head office in Toronto to be marked. If you pass (4 errors or fewer), you will receive a Smart Serve certification card and pin within 4-6 weeks.

Who is Smart Serve?
Smart Serve Ontario, a division of the Hospitality Industry Training Organization
of Ontario, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to developing and delivering
responsible service training to all individuals who serve alcoholic beverages or
work where alcoholic beverages are sold or served in the province of Ontario.

What is Smart Serve?
Smart Serve is a responsible alcohol beverage service training program developed by Smart Serve Ontario. the program is designed to promote responsible alcohol beverage service. Smart Serve is comprehensive and user friendly. The program is designed to be taken by either individuals without a facilitator or delivered to groups with a facilitator.

Who is the Program For?
This program is for servers, bartenders, DOOR STAFF,  SECURITY OFFICERS, golf
course marshals, managers, licensees or anyone who will be working in areas where alcohol is sold and served under a Liquor Licence or a Special Occasion Permit.

What does Smart Serve Cover?
Smart Serve covers topics such as:

  • facts about alcohol

  • how alcohol works in the body

  • signs of intoxication

  • legal rights and responsibilities

  • civil liability

  • types of licences

  • prevention and intervention techniques
